FEMMES

FEMMES seeks to engage middle school girls in hands-on activities in the field of computer science in an effort to close the technology gender gap. We host an annual Capstone event to teach coding workshops to middle school girls to inspire them to pursue a career in computer science. The Capstone event brings together middle school girls from nearby Chicago neighborhoods to attend computer science lectures and demonstrations led by university professors.

As Events Lead for the upcoming year, I will be working with two others to plan the spring Capstone event. I also am in charge of updating the website which has given me the chance to improve my HTML5/CSS skills.

ACM-W

ACM-W works to support women in computer science academically, socially, and professionally on campus through holding several events throughout the year. Our main events include biweekly study breaks, a Tech && Social Good panel, and quarterly workshop talks. This upcoming year we are hosting a two-day Women in Tech conference for women in the region to come together to learn about new tech topics and share their experiences in computing. As Vice Chair, I will be working to increase membership and plan new events to engage the computing community at UChicago.

Apsara

After learning both Odissi and Bollywood dance for 13 years, I continued my dance career in college through joining Apsara, an Indian Classical Dance organization on campus. My first year I got involved through participating in the SASA show and choreographing a classical piece for the Spring show. I look forward to exploring more creative possibilities by choreographing more fusion pieces in the future.
